Engineering Manager, Head-Up Displays and Mission Systems (Sugar Grove, IL)

SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Engineering Director, you lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of Head-Up Displays (HUD) and Mission Systems. You manage a group of SW and HW Engineers and ensure flawless execution of all projects within the Mission Systems business. You are responsible to deliver projects within budget, schedule, specified performance and quality. You ensure the evolution of HUD and Mission Systems products and continuously promote excellence, innovation, and competitiveness.

As Engineering Manager,  your key responsibilities include:

Project Planning, Staffing and Development

  • Develop the resource plans for the engineering team, and ensure availability to meet the business unit objectives
  • Provide engineering estimates and technical development plans for proposals
  • Hire, develop and train the staff
  • Foster senior staff succession plans and cross training of junior staff assigned to the project
  • Foster senior technical staff participation in aviation standards committees such as RTCA, AEEC, and SAE

Product Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance to team members
  • Ensures that all engineering deliverables are as per the company quality standards
  • Approve forecasts for internally funded R & D projects

Coordination with CMC Leadership

  • Work in collaboration with the other engineering managers and the Business Unit management team on topics related to product development, business development, and product roadmaps
  • Represent CMC at meetings and reviews with customers
  • Approve forecasts for internally funded R & D projects
  • Participate in productivity improvement, strategic plan development and strategic initiatives, such as reviewing engineering processes with the objective to improve quality, reduce cost, reduce schedule, and ensure they are rigorously applied to all projects

REQUIREMENTS

Education and experience

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Master degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering would be an asset.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the development, validation and/or verification of commercial/military avionics systems ( FMS, Sensors, Displays, Autopilot, MCDU, ...).
  • Experience developing real-time embedded systems, including hardware/software integration.
  • Strong knowledge of Airworthiness certification processes for military and commercial aircraft.
  • Experience with DO-178B/C and its annexes DO-33x.
  • Combination of strong technical, leadership and managerial skills.
  • Experience in requirements definition and management.
  • Experience in managing civil and military certification programs.
  • Bilingualism (oral and written French and English) would be an asset.
