Reporting to the Manager AEH Engineer, the Senior FPGA Design Engineer has responsibility in development for avionics for safety critical and/or military applications. As a key development team member, the successful candidate will be an important contributor involved in the definition, implementation tests and delivery to production of firmware designs. Designs will utilize state of the art technologies while following standard performance, quality and capability at aggressive cost targets.
As Senior FPGA Design/Verification Engineer, your key responsibilities include:
- DO-254 Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH) development and certification process related to functional allocation, design, simulation, synthesis, place & route, test planning, verification and introduction to production.
- Design of state-of-the art digital hardware utilizing technologies including processor and DSP interfaces, video signal processing, I/O blocks and standard logic.
- Support the architecture, design and development of PCBs for prototype and implementation of complex digital systems FPGA or ASIC.
- Participate in program bids and proposals, estimate generation and project planning.
- Provide project oversite and tracking of AEH activities for a team of developers and verifiers, including task assignments, deliverable planning, as well as budget and risk management, would be an advantage.
- Serve as a primary interface with other design groups to ensure alignment across design and scheduled milestones.
- Utilize CMC development process and participate in design reviews for key characteristics of performance as well as safety/reliability, test and manufacturability.
- Analyze functional requirements for systems and/or sub-systems and participate in the definition of FPGA functional and performance requirements;
- Lead and participate in the definition of FPGS validation and verification plans;
- Develop simulation verification test benches, verification components and bus-functional models in SystemVerilog, using standardized verification methodologies such as UVM;
- Develop and implement on-target test environments;
- Develop, document and execute test procedures, and write test reports;
- Provide documentation for requirements, design descriptions, test and production support.
- Support management, manufacturing and other engineering disciplines in various planning and/or problem-solving task.
To join our team, you must:
- Bachelor in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
- Seven (7) or more years of FPGA development experience in industry.
- Experience providing mentorship and technical oversite of more junior team members.
- Self-motivated, adaptable to change, proactive, diligent and strong inter-personal skills.
- Knowledge of Engineering best practices, methodologies, processes, and tools.
- Experience in project estimating, planning, tracking, and team oversite.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Assets
- Knowledge of Avionics products (Display systems, Sensor systems or Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) as a few examples).
- Experience with Xilinx's FPGA (7 Series, Ultrascale) and design tool (Vivado);
- Test automation experience with scripting languages similar to Python;
- Knowledge of Mathworks products.
- Knowledge of civil and military aviation standards such as process development standard DO-254 and qualification standards DO-160 and MIL-STD-810/461.
- Knowledge of Modelsim/Questasim.
- Knowledge of System Verilog and universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
- Knowledge of ARINC, AMBA, AXI, PCle and Ethernet busses.
- Experience with design for safety/reliability and flight critical avionics/safety-of-life systems.
- Proficiency with configuration, documentation and trace tools (Microsoft Office, DOORS,...)
- Bilingualism (oral and written French and English).
