Reporting to the Hardware Engineering Department Manager, the Hardware Development Engineer will join a multi-functional team to participate in the design of various products in CMC Electronics' development and production environments. As a key member of the development team, the successful candidate will be responsible for new design development, product improvement and certification efforts for safety-critical avionics applications (Part 23 and Part 25) and military avionics applications. Designers will use state-of-the-art technologies while following standard processes to develop globally competitive solutions and deliver superior performance, quality and capacity at aggressive cost targets.
As a Hardware Development Engineer, your key responsibilities include:
- Define hardware architectures, design and develop electronic circuit assemblies, develop appropriate design verification and validation approaches, and perform design verification activities for compliance with civil aviation standards, RTCA/DO-160, and military standards, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461;
- Conduct design studies and trade-off analyses with platform and system engineers for new product developments and enhancements to meet safety-critical application requirements;
- Participate in new program bids by proposing hardware solutions and associated cost / schedule estimates;
- Ensure adherence to design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT) requirements;
- Identify and resolve hardware issues with component obsolescence, and manufacturability of the system components;
- Actively participate in productivity improvement initiatives to continuously optimize the team’s use of new tools, technologies, design approaches and streamlined processes.
- Organize development efforts within a concurrent engineering environment.
- Assume a mentorship role to assist with the professional growth of junior team members.
How to excel in this role:
- Bachelor in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in analog and digital circuit designs.
- Demonstrated experience with any of the following:-Design and testing to RTCA/DO-160 Environmental requirements for avionics systems or Military standards such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.-Hardware support to product manufacturing;-Hardware product development processes for avionics certification such as RTCA/DO-254 hardware development;
- Good communication skills, written and oral, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Independent, self-motivated worker who needs minimal guidance.
