This position reports directly to the Director of Core Product Engineering and works closely with the Business Development Manager (BDM) and Chief Systems Engineer to design and enhance CMC’s core products. A strong background in hardware design, along with expertise in electronic/mechanical product development and the integration of both modern and legacy systems, is essential for this role.

You will be responsible for product design as well as meeting deadlines, quality standards, and cost targets in hardware development projects. Additionally, you will collaborate with the manufacturing team to improve product performance and durability.

As the Hardware Technical Lead, You Will:

  • Develop all hardware estimates for new programs within the core hardware group

  • Work with product architects and business development leads to understand customer RFPs and allocate requirements across functional teams

  • Ensure product alignment with platform reference designs to minimize costs and lead time

  • Collaborate with AEH, mechanical, ECAD, electrical, HQE, testing, and airworthiness teams to define solutions and formalize estimates

  • Provide technical guidance to designers involved in aerospace products (AEH, MCAD, ECAD, electrical)

  • Manage the hardware project development process in compliance with CMC's internal procedures

  • Support business development technically, including preparing technical proposals

  • Review customer requirements and ensure proposed solutions meet those needs

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in avionics systems

How to Excel in This Role

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; an MBA or business training is an asset

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in hardware development

  • At least 7 years of experience in the aerospace industry, with deep knowledge of mission computers and both civil and military markets

  • Experience managing the full product lifecycle and leading engineering teams of 10+ people

  • Experience with civil and military aerospace customer relations is an asset

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes compliant with aerospace standards

  • Exposure to various engineering disciplines (electronics, software, firmware, algorithms, mechanical)

  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to varied audiences, including executive levels

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a customer focus and dedication to continuous improvement

What Sets You Apart

  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes (SAR ARP4754 and/or ISO/IEC/IEEE-15288) is an asset

  • Understanding of airworthiness standards such as DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD is an asset

  • Eligible for Canada’s Controlled Goods Program and NATO Secret security clearance; must also meet ITAR access eligibility requirements

  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS (or equivalent)

  • Prior knowledge of avionics systems such as displays, FMS, GPS, TCAS, TAWS, WXR, SVS, audio systems, and moving maps is an asset

  • Familiarity with FAA TSO, FAR, TC, and STC regulations and procedures is an asset

  • Experience with FAR PART 23/25 certification is an asset
