
Hardware Technical Lead

This position reports directly to the Director of Core Product Engineering and collaborates with the Business Development Manager (BDM) and the Chief Systems Engineer to design and enhance CMC’s key products. A strong background in hardware design, along with expertise in electronic/mechanical product development and integration of both modern and legacy systems, is essential for this role.
You will be responsible for product design, as well as ensuring project timelines, quality, and cost objectives for hardware development. Additionally, you will work closely with the manufacturing team to enhance product performance and durability.
As a Hardware Technical Lead, Your Responsibilities Include:

Estimating hardware requirements for new core hardware programs.

Collaborating with product architects and business development leads to analyze customer proposals and assign requirements to functional teams.

Ensuring product alignment with the platform reference design to minimize costs and timelines.

Working with AEH, mechanical, ECAD, electrical, HQE, testing, and airworthiness teams to define solutions and formalize estimates.

Providing technical mentorship to designers involved in aerospace products (AEH, MCAD, ECAD, electrical).

Managing the hardware development process in compliance with CMC’s internal procedures.

Supporting commercial initiatives, including drafting technical proposals.

Reviewing customer requirements to ensure proposed solutions meet their needs.

Staying up to date with the latest advancements in avionics systems.
How to Excel in This Role:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; an MBA or equivalent business education is a plus.

At least 10 years of relevant hardware development experience.

Minimum of 7 years in the aerospace industry, with deep expertise in mission computers and both civil and military markets.

Experience managing the product lifecycle and leading an engineering team of at least 10 people.

Customer relationship experience in civil and military aerospace is an asset.

Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes and standards.

Exposure to multiple engineering disciplines (electronics, software, firmware, algorithms, mechanics).

Ability to communicate technical concepts to various audiences, including senior leadership.

Entrepreneurial mindset focused on customer needs and continuous improvement.
What Sets You Apart:

Familiarity with systems engineering processes like SAR ARP4754 and/or ISO/IEC/IEEE-15288 is an asset.

Understanding of airworthiness standards such as DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD is an advantage.

Eligibility for Canada’s Controlled Goods Program and NATO Secret security clearance. Must also be eligible to access ITAR-controlled goods.

Experience managing requirements via DOORS (or equivalent).

Prior knowledge of avionics systems such as display systems, FMS, GPS, TCAS, TAWS, WXR, SVS, audio systems, and moving maps is an asset.

Familiarity with FAA TSO, FAR, TC, and STC regulations and procedures is a plus.

Experience with FAR PART 23/25 certification is an advantage.
