Hardware Core Engineering Team Lead

Reporting to the Hardware Core Engineering Design Manager, the Engineering Team Lead for the Hardware Core Engineering group will be responsible for the organization, coordination, and control of all tactical activities assigned to the engineering teams. As the core engineering teams support multiple programs and business units across CMC, the engineering project lead plays a pivotal role in project development by being the main interface between the Engineering team and other groups within CMC Electronics. Projects involve hardware electronic design, PCB layout, mechanical engineering, embedded software /firmware development of certified aircraft systems.

 

How does the Project Lead contribute to our success?

  • Interfaces with internal customers from all business units to understand their project needs, objectives, budgets and schedules;
  • Works closely with the hardware core technical leads to prepare engineering estimates and development plans;
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by coordinating the allocation of resources in accordance with project plans across all business units;
  • Works closely with team members to ensure that assigned tasks are progressing as planned and takes corrective action as required;
  • Monitors activity progress and communicates risks and issues to the respective business unit project managers, proposing solutions and alternatives as required;
  • Participates in coordination meetings with engineering project managers and operations managers;
  • Works with the Business Unit Managers and Hardware Core Engineering Manager to address cross-business unit priority conflicts;
  • Provides first-level technical assessment of activities assigned to the teams in order to recommend the action required and establish the relative priority/urgency with respect to other requests;
  • Collaborate with the technical leads and business unit project managers to maintain schedules, budgets, Primavera plans and progress reports;
  • Contributes to decisions regarding the group structure and performance, including training recommendations, process improvement initiatives, employee reviews and team budget management;
  • Maintains the engineering work standards and processes;
  • May be called upon to participate in design activities in their area of expertise.

To excel in this role, you must:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering;
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in hardware, AEH or mechanical design in the field of avionics or military products using development process and ideally designing to quality standards (such as RTCA/DO-254, DO-160, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810 or MIL- STD-461);
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management;
  • Customer-oriented with a focus on achieving results;
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Extremely well organized with a keen ability to multi-task;
  • Fluently bilingual (French/English)
