Reporting to the Director of Airworthiness & Quality Engineering, the Airworthiness Systems Specialist is responsible for making Findings of Compliance that establishes Type Design compliance to the Certification Basis (i.e. Canadian Technical Standards Orders (TSOs) & Non-TSO function requirements), for systems aspects. Findings of Compliance also include modifications to Installation and Operations Manuals.
The Authorized Person - Systems:
· Is eligible to become Transport Canada Authorized Person, per Transport Canada Airworthiness Manual, sub-chapter 505.409(b)(2).
· Is responsible for preparing the Certification Plans for CMC products, in order to seek CAN-TSO Design Approval from Transport Canada. These plans establish the Certification Basis and the means of compliance to these regulatory standards. Certification Plans are prepared in collaboration with product development teams.
· Is the primary point of contact between CMC and Transport Canada for the avionics product certification, as required by the project scope.
· Leads CMC presentations to Certification Authorities (such as Concept Briefings, Type Board Meetings).
· Is responsible for managing avionics safety / compliance for certification activities of various subsystems using guidance of SAE ARP 4761/4754A.
· Ensures that the contractual and derived system safety requirements are achieved and adequately implemented by the in-house design team or by the subcontractors.
· Defines requirements necessary to prevent or control mishap risk throughout the system life cycle and ensure of their implementation.
· Assess the impact of design, manufacturing processes, maintenance and operational procedures on system safety.
· Participates in internal/external design reviews and peer reviews of system documentation (such as specifications, development plans, technical manuals, etc.) to ensure product development complies with certification basis and other airworthiness standards.
· Delivers the declaration attesting to the demonstration of conformity with its certification basis. Prepares and submit the product's draft Type Certificate Data Sheet to be officially issued by the Certification Authority.
· Performs other normal tasks as assigned.
· For already certified products, reviews and approves instructions for continuing airworthiness (including system-level Engineering Change Orders, Service Bulletins, etc.) and ensures the product continues to meets it certification basis.
To join our team, you must hold:
· Bachelor degree in Engineering
· Minimum 5 years of relevant experience preferably in a high-technology civil aviation TSO-certification environment, and military aerospace programs.
· Have a sound knowledge of:
o Civil Airborne Safety System standards; SAE ARP 4761 & 4754A, AC 2X.1309, MIL-HDBK-882 and MIL-HDBK-217F,
o Electrical, electronic and mechanical systems,
o Firmware (AEH) and software safety knowledge would be an asset;
· Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
· Strong analytical ability and problem solving
