Working in the cockpit design group, The system engineer is responsible to execute or lead engineering activities relative to the design of cockpits. 
As responsible of the cockpit design, the system engineer is involved in all aspects of the conception including the specification of the computer platform, displays, specification and development of avionics functions for both forward-fit and retrofit programs. The candidate will be required to become familiar with CMC’s existing products such as equipment, functions and system architectures as well as industry standards, customer requirements in order to contribute to the success of the various products made by CMC Electronics.  CMC provides training as well as technical and business career opportunities.

 

As a  System Engineer your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

 

  • Review and estimate customer requests and develop competitive technical solutions addressing their needs..
  • Working in collaboration with other system engineers either member of the team or consultants) as well as customers in order to validate the proposed solutions and recommend solutions addressing the requirements while respecting cost and schedule constraints.
  • Understand the problems and constraint relatives to the design of avionic systems and ensuring they are properly addressed by the proposed solution.
  • Work in collaboration with the hardware, firmware and software development teams.
  • Elicit system requirements, validate, verify and allocate them to the various disciplines (hardware and software).
  • Contribute to all phases of development including requirement analysis, development, verification of life cycle data, test and first aircraft installations,
  • Generate and review system specification.
  • Generate and review technical manuals.
  • Contribute to processes and product continuous improvement initiatives of the company.
  • Maintain knowledge of the industry regulations to ensure the airworthiness of the solutions.
  • Liaison with Transport Canada for product certification.
  • Travel may occasionally be required.

To join our team, you must have:

 

  • Baccalaureate or master degree in electrical, computer or aerospace engineering,
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in development, integration or testing of complex avionics systems.
  • Experience in development of real-time embedded systems including hardware and software integration.
  • Experience with flight simulator and test equipment both software and hardware.
  • Be motivated, creative and good sense of initiative. 
  • Be Team worker with good communication skills. 
  • Be Capable to communicate in both French and English oral and written to various audiences either technical or not.

Specific Requirements Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS):

  • Good knowledge of the main functions of an EFIS (AS 6296) and related regulations (FAA AC25-11b, TSO-C113c, TSO-C209, SAE AS-8034b).

Specific Requirements Cockpit: 

  • Good knowledge of development standards SAE ARP4761, RTCA DO-178, RTCA DO-254, DO-160G and MIL-STD-498.

 

Assets :

  • Knowledge of C and C++ programming languages.
  • Experience with display, navigation systems (FMS, AFCS), simulation systems for aircraft and avionics systems.
  • Knowledge with Model Based design tools such as Rhapsody (IBM), Simulink, SCADE.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) regulations (DO-297, ARINC 653, ARINC 661, ARINC 664, TSO-2C153, TSO-C214)
  • Working knowledge of FAA TSO, FARs, TC and STC regulations and procedures an advantage
  • Certification FAR PART 23/25 related experience an advantage.
